January 26, 2015
Veronica Trombley, 96, of Mt. Pleasant, was finally able to reunite with the love of her life, Leo Trombley, on January 25, 2015. It was their 67th wedding anniversary.
Veronica was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 2, 1918 to Joseph and Ann Hoffman. She grew up in Detroit with her siblings, Anntoinette, Bernadine, Rose, Ann, Joseph and Frank. She "self-trained" herself on office skills and became a stenographer. She was always so pleased to share the stories of her days in the offices of the J.L. Hudson Co., The Federal Reserve Bank and Selfridge Air Force Base.
She married Leo Trombley, at St. Cecilia Church in Detroit, on January 25, 1947. Since he was in the Air Force, they lived in El Paso, Texas for a while before returning and settling in Detroit. Years later, their daughter, Lauretta joined them, and as Veronica always said, "completed our family." She and Leo were blessed with 3 grandchildren who became - and still are - the center of their lives.
Veronica loved music, especially piano, which she was still playing up until 2 weeks ago. She embraced everyone she met and treated them as family, always believing, and teaching her grandkids to look for the good in people. She had a strong faith in God and truly was an example of "treat others as you would want to be treated."
She is survived by her daughter Lauretta Trombley, of Mt. Pleasant, Grandchildren, Abigail Champion of Boston, MA, Carl (Bessie) Champion of Minneapolis MN and Sydney Zeien of Grand Rapids, MI. Also surviving are numerous friends who were her extended family. In keeping with the belief that blood does not define family, she is also survived by her "2 other daughters", Chris Pung, of Beal City, with whom she spent 20+ years of Fridays as Chris did her hair. And, Jan Sterling, who was by her side, always listening, encouraging and sending her cards for 30+ years. Also, Dr. Ellen Kehoe, who so vigilantly watched over her heart - which was a big job - and enabled us to enjoy her for as long as we did. Finally, Nelson, her cat for 9 years, who has a weight problem now, due to the hourly treat schedule that she had him on.....he will forever miss his best friend.
Veronica lived her last year at Crestwood Assisted Living. The extraordinary staff became her (our) second family and enabled her to make new friends and enjoy activities that she loved. She was cared for and loved just as if she was their own family member. We will be forever grateful for this wonderful group of people. Thank You.
